Blast Chiller with Leaking Refrigeration Evaporator

posted in: Blog 0

A client reported their refrigeration unit wasn’t reaching temperature. Inspection revealed clogged condenser covers due to grease and dust from a nearby cooking station, indicating a lack of maintenance.

Testing showed flashing in the sight glass, confirming low refrigerant. Using a leak detector and bubble test, we pinpointed the leak at the bottom left tank corner.

With this system, refrigerant leaks worsen as gas reverses direction during defrost, pumping it out. We were lucky to have enough left for testing.

The only fix is a new evaporator. We’ll quote the client and proceed based on their decision. Regular maintenance could have prevented this—schedule a service today!
